Back by popular demand Rick will once again act as the Master of Ceremonies for the 15th annual OWPI Conference & Tradeshow.

Rick is a past President of the On-Site Wastewater Professionals of Illinois and has served on the Advisory commission for the organization. He has testified in front of Illinois House of Representatives on key issues pertaining to the current code. He currently serves as Vice President of OWPI.  Rick a recipient of the Larry Vansickle Memorial Award for Contributions to the On-Site Industry, winning the award in 2013. He is well respected among his peers as someone who looks to new technology and methods for improving the installation of On-Site systems.

Don Schaffer
Executive Vice-President
Mid-West Truckers Association

As Executive Vice-President of Mid-West Truckers Association, Don Schaefer represents the interests of over 3,600-member companies in operate trucks in
their business operations. MTA members come from 16 states and Canada.

He joined the Association in 1992 and manages the wide range of services offered by MTA, including regulatory and legislative representation, license & title services and a federal drug & alcohol testing program. He serves on numerous state and national board and commissions dealing with transportation issues. Prior to joining Mid-West Truckers Association, he was with the Washington-based American Petroleum Institute. He also served as a television and radio reporter covering the Illinois & Wisconsin government and was also a political consultant.

Don will be speaking on we speaking on the current trucking regulations, safety, and how they pertain to you and your business.

Jeff Luthman

Jeff Luthman has been with Consolidated Treatment Systems for over 15 years. During his time with Consolidated Jeff has been involved in all aspects of the on-site wastewater treatment industry.

From manufacturing, research & development, sales, marketing, regulatory affairs as well as dealer training and development. Jeff has spent a great deal of time working with dealers and homeowners providing technical support.

Jeff will be speaking on behalf of Flow Squared. A new ultraviolet disinfection system. He will focus on how the system works, when it should be used, installation, and service.

R.J. Rains is a thirty-eight-year employee of the Bradford Supply Company, spending thirty -five years in sales working with contractors in the oil and gas production, water well systems, plumbing and onsite industry.

Currently he is supervising fourteen salesmen in five states as a Vice-President and sales manager for the company along with commissioning the new inside sales department at the Corporate office.

Bradford Supply Company became a stocking distributor of Infiltrator products in 2006 to add to their wide selection of pumps, accessories, piping products, and accessories already offered to the onsite industry.

R.J. will be speaking on behalf of Infiltrator Water Technologies and will be discussing the new ATL or Advanced Treatment Leach field product line.

Jerry Biuso
CEO - National LICA

Jerry Biuso serves as the National Land Improvement Contractors of America’s (LICA) CEO, a position he has held for ten years. He represents members from coast to coast. During his tenor he has increased membership by over 40%.

Jerry sold his prominent New York City advertising agency, which provided advertising, marketing and public relations to small, medium and Fortune 500 companies. A graduate of the School of Visual Arts in New York, he is an accomplished graphic designer and has won many awards for direct mail campaigns, TV and radio commercials as well corporate identity and annual reports.   

Jerry will be speaking on the benefits of LICA membership and the LICA Residential Septic Service Protection Plan

Michael has over 15 years in the building and trades primarily focusing on heavy commercial and industrial projects. 

He has 20 years experience as an Estimator, and was a Civil Dept. Manager at Sterling Boiler & Mechanical Heavy Industrial projects where he specialized in clean air projects for power plants. He also worked with power plant maintenance.

He was a residential home builder and founded Environmental Septic Solutions in 1999, and has worked in the onsite industry for the past 17 years.

Meg Thomson is a Marketing Coordinator at Eljen Corporation.  She is a graduate of Eastern Connecticut State University and worked in small business development in rural Alaska before moving back to Connecticut.

For the past three years at Eljen she has worked with the regulatory community as well as providing technical training and troubleshooting services across the country.  She is currently studying soil science at University of Massachusetts.

Meg will be speaking on the Eljen Geotextile Sand Filter, it's application and installation procedures.

A Certified SEO since 2007, Mr. Kaub cumulated many years of field experience and knowledge as a PTA Service Partner and a designer before managing a successful septic service and installation business for over 17 years.

Based on his vast experience in the sale, service and installation of onsite wastewater treatment septic systems, and has developed a comprehensive step-by-step approach to ensure that each septic system project is top quality and trouble-free.

Mike will be speaking about a Ecoflo Biofilters.

Joe Rebori
Environmental Technical Sales Engineer
Bio-Microbics, Inc.

Joe Rebori, Environmental Technical Sales Engineer, joined the Research and Development Team of Bio-Microbics in 2008 as a lab technician. With a Bachelor of Science in both Economics and Mathematics from the University of Kansas Joe received his Master’s in Economics in 2017, he transitioned into the “Environmental Technical Sales” position to support training events and promoting environmental technology; involved in a multitude of residential and commercial engineering applications for wastewater, greywater, and stormwater projects; and provides additional technical design assistance for distributors, dealers, engineers, builders/developers, and end-users.

Joe will speak about new and proven technologies for dealing with commercial (High Strength) wastewater and addressing issues with the “unusual” contaminants associated additional amenities added to today’s commercial properties.  

Todd Soukup - President
Applied Land Analysis, Inc.

Todd is a graduate of the University of Iowa. He has been a soil classifier since 1989. Todd began his career mapping soils in North Dakota for the Soil Conservation Service. He moved to Illinois in 1994 where he worked as a soil scientist for a consulting firm in Glen Ellyn.

Todd started his own business in 1997, providing soil evaluation and ecological management services in northern Illinois.

Todd has been a member of the Illinois Soil Classifiers Association since 1995.

Todd will be speaking on perimeter drains, their design, use, and purpose.

Steve Matli
Field Service Manager
Maguire Backhoe Co.

Steve Matli resides in Palmyra, IL. He holds an Associate’s Degree in Ag Mechanics from Lincoln Land Community College, graduating in 1983.

He continued working on his family’s farm until 1987 when he accepted a position at Hanson Engineering. Steve worked for 13 years in the Materials Testing Laboratory and was responsible for testing soil, concrete, and asphalt. Steve began working for Macoupin County Contracting as the materials testing lab manager for QAQC.

Steve began working at Maguire Backhoe Company in 2006 and has risen to the rank of the septic service manager. Steve’s duties include scheduling all service, pumping, and septic system inspections. Steve currently holds his Private Sewage Pumper and Installer licenses with the State of Illinois and sits on the OWPI Board of Directors.

Steve will be speaking on the importance of the “New Owner Orientation Meeting”. What it should include and how best to convey to the owner the importance of taking care of their on-site sewage treatment system.

Kayla Hanson
Director of Technical Services
National Precast Concrete Association

Kayla Hanson graduated from Purdue University in 2013 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering.  As NPCA's Director of Technical Services, Kayla helps coordinate the activities and projects of the Technical Services team.  Kayla supports NPCA members and industry professionals by addressing technical issues, interpreting standards and specifications, developing technical publications, assisting with the NPCA Plant Certification Program, participating on codes and standards committees, and serving as the staff liaison to the Water & Wastewater Product Committee.  She also represents NPCA and the precast concrete industry at various conferences and tradeshows.  Kayla serves as the Secretary of ASTM Committee C27 on Precast Concrete Products and is involved with other industry groups including ACI and ASCE.

Kayla will be discussing the key points involved in a thorough inspection of both new and existing tanks. She will also review important concepts related to precast concrete tanks, including water tightness, durability, and testing.

Donnie Simmons
Director of Environmental Health
Livingston County Health Dept.

Donnie is a graduate of Western Illinois University. He has been with the Livingston County Health Dept. for 29 years and is now the Director of Environmental Health for Livingston County.

Donnie has been active in many aspects of environmental health and is a past President of the Illinois Association of Local Environmental Health Administrators.

Donnie will be speaking on dealing with issues and addressing contractors and homeowners concerns from the regulators point of view.

Jason Hewitt
Life Scientist
USEPA, Region 5

Jason Hewitt is a Life Scientist with the US EPA’s Region 5 Office in Chicago.  He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science from the University of Arizona, and Master’s Degrees from Indiana University in Environmental Science and Public Affairs.  Jason works on storm water, wet weather, and decentralized systems under the NPDES program.  Prior to joining EPA, he worked on MS4 regulatory issues at the municipal level.

Jason will be speaking on the Illinois Surface Discharge Permit, with a brief overview of the ILG62 General Permit and a focus on Waters of the United States, applying for coverage, the permittee’s responsibilities, electronic reporting, and updates on the reissuance of the permit.

Chad Moorman
Program Director IDPH

Chad Moorman is the Program Manager of the Private Sewage Disposal Program for the Illinois Department of Public Health. He is a Licensed Environmental Health Practitioner with more than 21 years of experience within public health.

Chad will be speaking on the current status and upcoming changes to the State of Illinois Sewage Code

The goal of the conference is to bring the industry and the regulatory agencies together. In this setting we all can connect, share, dialog, and work through many of the waste water industry issues we all face as professionals. 

The conference will offer three key areas of learning; prepare waste water field technicians, provide product manufacturers instruction and training, and hear first hand from the regulative Department on codes and compliance.

We target all areas of the industry from: field laborer, equipment operator, plumbers, city officials, county officials, health department officials, inspectors, major manufacturers, and control parts manufacturers.
